The administration of the Fire District includes one full-time administrative assistant, one part-time administrative secretary, one full-time deputy chief and one part-time deputy chief and a full time fire chief.
Sheri Gresham is the Fire District's Administrative Assistant. Sheri manages the front office operations. Her duties include file maintenance and organization, answering the telephone, data entry, and a major part of Sheri's job includes managing accounts payable and received. Sheri keeps the staff organized and makes sure that each staff member has access to information, files, and resources they need to conduct their daily duties. Sheri is the secretary to the board of trustees, responsible for recording, filing and posting meeting agendas, minutes and ordinances as well as disseminating important information to staff and trustees. Sheri joined the staff in 1999.
Linda Kellogg serves the District part-time administrative clerk. A major part of Linda's job includes data entry, filing, answering phones and assisting the District's administration with daily activities. Linda has been with the District since 2007.
Deputy Chief William Collins, CFPS is the Bureau Chief of Fire Prevention and Community Outreach. Chief Collins provides a bureau that is proactive to the needs of a growing community. With more than twenty-five years of experience Chief Collins outlines programs for public education, plans fire prevention efforts in coordination with the Village of Minooka and Channahon Code Enforcement and Zoning Divisions.
Chief Collins is a Certified Fire Protection Specialist through the National Fire Protection Association, Professional Grade Member with Society of Fire Protection Engineers and maintains State of Illinois Certified Firefighter III, Hazardous Material Incident Commander, Certified Instructor I and various Fire Prevention, and Fire Officer level certifications, including an Associates Degree in Fire Science and Bachelors Degree in Fire Service Management from Southern Illinois University - Carbondale.
Deputy Chief Collins serves in the command staff at moderate to major incidents, serving as incident commander, operations, or plans chief. Questions about fire prevention, inspections, codes, etc. will be directed to Chief Collins

Deputy Chief Howard Hoffman is the Bureau Chief of Operations. Chief Hoffman provides leadership and guidance to the daily operations of the Fire District, insuring that Fire and EMS resources are in a ready state to efficiently respond to the emergency service needs of the community. Chief Hoffman directs the daily functions of the on-duty crews to make sure apparatus, equipment and personnel are properly prepared to respond to community needs. Chief Hoffman fills assorted roles at emergency incidents including incident commander, operations officer or any other sector assignment and assists neighboring departments in the command staff when called upon for mutual aid.
Chief Hoffman is an Illinois certified Firefighter III , Fire Apparatus Engineer, Fire Prevention Officer I, Fire Officer II, Emergency Medical Technician B, and Hazardous Materials Technician B in addition to assorted fire and hazardous materials command classes. He holds a Bachelors Degree from Western Illinois University Fire Service Administration. Chief Hoffman is currently pursuing Illinois Fire Officer III certification.
Prior to coming to the Minooka Fire Protection District Chief Hoffman served as a Division Chief, Lieutenant, and Firefighter with the Downers Grove Fire Department for 17 years. Prior to his career with the Village of Downers Grove he served the Village of Riverside as a paid-on-call firefighter/emergency medical technician. Chief Hoffman also served 1 year at the New Lenox Fire Protection District as a volunteer firefighter/emergency medical technician.
Chief Hoffman is a field staff instructor with the Illinois Fire Service Institute teaching in various areas but primarily in the hazardous materials and homeland security program.
Fire Chief Al Yancey, Jr. provides leadership and service for the men and women of the Fire District; guiding the organization during a period of rapid change in the community and the organization. The fire chief manages a multi-million dollar budget, develops policy and procedure for effective, proactive service to the citizens, represents the Fire Districts interest in local, state, national and international issues that affect the organization, and represents the Fire District before the Board of Trustees. The chief is also responsible for incident command at major incidents in and around the District.
Chief Yancey holds an Bachelors Degree if Fire Service Management from Southern Illinois University – Carbondale and an Associates Degrees in Administration of Justice from John A. Logan College in Carterville , Illinois. Chief Yancey is a Certified Fire Officer, Fire/Arson Investigator, and EMT-B. In 2008 Chief Yancey will be granted the title of Chief Executive Officer by the United States Fire Administration – National Fire Academy.
Chief Yancey began his fire service career in 1988. Prior to becoming Chief at Minooka Fire Protection District he served as fire chief in the suburbs of Louisville, Kentucky. Prior to that he served as firefighter, captain, deputy chief and two years as Fire Chief for Makanda Township Fire Department in Carbondale, Illinois, the department where his fire service career began.
Chief Yancey serves as the chairman of the Volunteer Combination Officer Committee of the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association, is a member of the Southern Illinois University Fire Service Management Program Advisory Committee, a field staff instructor for the Illinois Fire Service Institute, and is active in his local church. He is married with two children and they reside in the Village of Minooka.
Minooka Fire Protection District is governed by a five members board of trustees comprised of residents of Minooka Fire Protection District. Many of the trustees are life long residents of Minooka. They are your neighbors and friends. Each trustee is appointed by the Grundy County Board at staggered terms.
