Fire Safety Education for Kids:

The Fire Districts Public Education Department offers a wide variety of educational opportunities for children of our community. Check out some of the ways we are educating the children. At the bottom of the page there are safe links to help kids have fun and learn about fire safety.
  • Learn Not To Burn (LNTB) Minooka Fire Protection District began delivering this class to Minooka Elementary School Children in the 2003 school year. LNTB uses 22 key fire safety behaviors and is organized in three learning levels. LNTB incorporates fire safety behaviors into regular school subjects, so youngsters absorb life-saving information while developing skills in reading, math, art, history, and science.
  • Risk Watchers Each year, unintentional injuries kill more than 6,000 kids and permanently disable more than 120,000. In Canada, injuries are the leading cause of death for children over one year of age. Sadly, the vast majority of these injuries are not random "accidents" - they are predictable and preventable. With education, motivation, and the support of caring adults, NFPA believes that children can learn to be much safer.
  • Safety Education House is offered by Minooka Fire Protection District for community events and group field trips. The Safety Education House is a mobile house that uses fake smoke, warm doors, and working smoke detectors and storm simulations to teach children how to escape safely from a house fire, and what to do during a severe storm. We would be glad to set up a time to let your group or organization participate in this excellent learning program.
