Volunteers Needed

MEMAMinooka Emergency Management Agency is looking for 8-10 dedicated volunteers to assist the Police and Fire Departments on an as-needed basis. Volunteers will be trained in basic first aid, CPR, traffic control, scene lighting, radio communications, disaster preparedness, the National Incident Management System (NIMS), and will pass the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) class. Meetings and trainings will be held twice a month in the evening, on a schedule to be determined by availability. The MEMA will assist the CERTPolice Department with lighting and traffic control for extended scenes and at public events, such as high school graduations and sporting events; and the Fire Department with lighting and traffic control as needed, as well as being an efficient support team for longer incidents by filling air bottles and setting up a rehab center when necessary. Volunteers will also be trained in Severe Weather Spotting and be responsible for providing coverage to the Village of Minooka when severe thunderstorms and/or tornados are forecast.

NIMSApplications are available at the Minooka Police Department (at 121 East McEvilly Road in Minooka), and all applicants are subject to criminal background checks. Anyone over the age of 18 is welcome to apply, and workman’s comp insurance will be provided by the Village.
